Cad Bane Tarkin Town - Master Class

Full Deck Breakdown for Planetary Qualifiers

This weekend, I’m heading to the Star Wars Unlimited Planetary Qualifiers with my Aggression Cad Bane Tarkin Town deck, and I couldn’t be more excited to share everything about it with you. This deck is a mid-range powerhouse built to control the board, dismantle opponents’ strategies, and capitalize on the incredible synergies between Cad Bane, Tarkin Town, and a host of Underworld-themed units and tricks. Whether you’re new to Star Wars Unlimited or a seasoned player, this deck offers a unique playstyle that’s both competitive and fun.

Deck Narrative: Control the Board, Dominate the Game

At its core, this deck thrives on precision damage and resource efficiency. The goal is simple: maintain early control using Cad Bane’s leader ability and Tarkin Town’s epic action to clear the board, then transition into a commanding mid- and late-game with powerful units and synergistic combos.

Cad Bane is one of my favorite characters in the Star Wars universe, and his abilities make him an absolute blast to play. His leader ability allows you to exhaust him to deal 1 damage to an opponent’s unit—a small but impactful ping that can tilt the board in your favor. Meanwhile, his unit’s Raid 2 ability and synergy with Underworld cards give you incredible value with each play.

Key Combos and Synergies

  1. Tarkin Town + Cad Bane Leader Ability:

    • Use Cad’s leader ping to soften up enemy units and follow up with Tarkin Town’s epic action to finish them off. Together, these tools give you consistent control over the board.

  2. Crafty Smugglers + Ma Klounkee:

    • Crafty Smugglers can attack safely with their shield, and Ma Klounkee lets you bounce them back to your hand to deal 3 damage to an opponent’s unit. This combo is perfect for eliminating early threats while conserving your resources.

  3. “Now There Are Two of Them” + Zuckuss/Bossk:

    • This event reduces the cost of deploying powerful 5-resource units like Zuckuss (6/6 with Saboteur) or Bossk, who thrives when you have events in hand.

  4. Jabba + Trick Events:

    • Jabba lets you search the top 10 cards of your deck for a trick event and reduces the cost of all tricks by 1. With Jabba, cards like Shoot First and Ma Klounkee become free, allowing you to maximize your damage and efficiency.

  5. Ma Klounkee + Bossk:

    • Bounce damaged or dying units back to your hand with Ma Klounkee, dealing 3 damage to an opponent’s unit. Pair this with Bossk to trigger an additional 2 damage, creating devastating board swings.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths:

  • Strong against aggro decks like Sabine ECL due to consistent damage and board control.

  • Efficient resource usage allows for strong mid-game plays.

  • Excellent synergy between units, events, and leader abilities.

Weaknesses:

  • Struggles against healing-heavy blue decks that can restore health faster than you can deal damage.

  • Limited air presence makes space-focused decks like Jango Tarkin Town challenging.

  • Requires careful sequencing to optimize combos.

Matchup Strategies

vs. Sabine ECL (Aggro):
Sabine is a popular and aggressive leader, but this deck is well-equipped to handle her. Use Cad’s leader ping and Tarkin Town to clear early threats, and rely on Crafty Smugglers + Ma Klounkee to maintain tempo. Cards like 4-LOM and Zuckuss are critical in later rounds to neutralize Sabine and push damage.

vs. Control Decks:
Against control, your early game is crucial. Go wide with smaller units and use Bazine to disrupt their hand by discarding key events like Overwhelming Barrage or Super Laser Blast. Jabba becomes an MVP in this matchup, as his tricks help you maintain pressure and control.

vs. Healing/Restore Decks:
Healing decks can be a tough matchup, as you’ll need to deal 40+ damage to win. Focus on eliminating “Restore” units like The Client and Dr. Pershing as quickly as possible. Sideboard in Krayt Dragons for longer games—they’re excellent finishers that can help you close out matches before your opponent regains control.

Starting Hands and Sequencing

Ideal Opening Hand: Look for Crafty Smugglers, “Now There Are Two of Them,” Zuckuss, or Bazine. Any 2-cost unit like Greedo is also a solid start.

Sequencing Tips:

  • Always try to go second to gain the resource advantage.

  • Use Tarkin Town’s epic action early to stabilize the board and prevent your opponent from gaining momentum.

  • Avoid holding back Cad’s leader ability—use it consistently to pressure your opponent’s units.

Sideboard Strategy

This deck’s sideboard is designed to adapt to specific matchups. For longer games or healing-heavy decks, I recommend adding 2 Krayt Dragons and 1 Change of Heart while removing Mercenary Gunships and a Cloud Rider. Against aggressive matchups, prioritize cards that maintain board control and tempo.

Why This Deck?

I love Cad Bane, both as a Star Wars character and as a leader in this game. His combination of utility, aggression, and synergy with Underworld cards makes him incredibly fun to play. I’m confident this deck has what it takes to perform well at the Planetary Qualifiers, and I can’t wait to see how it does!
