Wat Tambor Deck Upgrades: Padawan, Jedi, and Master Jedi Tiers!
Star Wars Unlimited TCG
Welcome back to TCG Squad! Today, we’re leveling up our budget Wat Tambor deck from the Twilight of the Republic set in Star Wars Unlimited TCG. In our last article, we covered the basics with our Padawan-level budget build—a solid $25 deck that swarms the board with droids. But today, we’re pushing it further with two new levels: Jedi and Master Jedi. These upgrades bring more power, synergy, and a faster path to victory. All upgrades to the decks will be in the description of this video. So, let’s dive into how each tier transforms the deck!

JEDI TIER UPGRADE
Starting with the Jedi tier, we’re making a few smart swaps to increase the deck’s efficiency and impact on the board. We’re removing the three Resupply events and replacing them with Command.
Why? Command is a superior card to resupply when it comes to a double green deck. Command allows us to add two experience tokens to any unit and can also be used as a resource, making it a flexible and powerful addition. With Command, you’re not only leveling up your units but also ramping your resources, setting up even stronger turns. This change adds a nice layer of versatility to the deck, making it a great step up from our Padawan build. Adding a playset of Command takes this deck outside the budget deck range, which for me is anything below $50. A playset command will bring the cost of the deck up to around $70!
MASTER JEDI TIER UPGRADE
Now, for those looking to unlock the deck’s full potential, we have the Master Jedi tier. Here, we’re adding some powerful additions, adding none other than Darth Vader - Commanding the First Legion.
To fit Vader in, we’re replacing the two Super Battle Droids and one Gamorrean Retainer. Vader’s on-play ability, combined with his 5 Attack and 7 Defense, gives the deck a massive boost in power. His Ambush ability allows us to take advantage of searching through the top 10 cards and play units that costs 3 resources combined. Our dream unit when playing Darth Vader is the Droid Commando.
With this duo, you can deal 9 ambush damage in a single turn, either taking out a big threat or hitting multiple units. This combo of Vader and Droid Commando gives the deck some serious firepower, making it tough for opponents to recover once you establish this synergy.
Adding in a playset of Darth Vader significantly increases the cost of the deck brings it close to $210. I know that is a lot, but Darth Vader is literally one of the best cards in the game. Having 2 Vader’s in the deck is still really good option plus that can save you additional $40
GAME PLAN BY TIER
Let’s quickly go over how these upgrades affect the deck’s playstyle across the tiers:
Padawan Level: Our budget-friendly, swarm-focused build is all about creating Battle Droid tokens, maintaining a steady board presence, and utilizing Wat Tambor’s leader ability to secure a steady pace of damage.
Jedi Level: With the addition of Command, we’re leaning into unit buffs and flexibility. You’ll find that managing experience tokens and resource options adds more strategic layers, giving you better control over the flow of the game.
Master Jedi Level: The Master Jedi deck revolves around explosive turns with Darth Vader. Here, you’ll want to time his entrance carefully to maximize impact, often setting up with Droid Commando to clear significant threats or take out multiple units in a single move. This level is all about high-stakes plays and capitalizing on Vader’s powerful stats.

That’s it for our tiered breakdown of the Wat Tambor deck! Whether you’re sticking with the Padawan-level build or going all out with the Master Jedi upgrades, there’s a lot of fun to be had with this deck. Let me know in the comments which tier you’re planning to try out, or if you have any tips of your own! May the droid army be with you!
